Requesting a New AHN

Requesting a new AHN can be done within the AHN Master. Click on the green “Request AHN” button in the top right corner.

The next screen will ask you if the customer is a Business or Individual. Hovering your mouse of these two options will give you the use case for each.

After selecting the type, it will ask you if the customer is a producer. If yes, the market segment will prepopulate to producer. If not, select the correct market segment from the drop-down list. Hovering your mouse over the market segment list will give the definition of each market segment.

After entering in the necessary customer information, select “Review” at the bottom of the page. 

The system will pull any potential duplicate AHNs. If the customer AHN is already created. Click the copy to clipboard icon next to the AHN on the left side of the screen. If the AHN is not already created, click “Yes” to request a new AHN.

The last screen will ask you to review the AHN details. If everything you entered looks accurate, click “Create.” This will create your new AHN in real time. Please note that the AHN will still need to be verified by the Help Desk. Once the AHN is verified, you will receive a verification in the AHN Reponses section of the Dashboard. 


AHN Market Segments:

  1. (AC) Animal Clinic/Hospital: Establishments that provide veterinary services for companion and/or livestock animals. This includes traditional clinics, hospitals, and mobile clinics, such as mobile spay or neuter clinics. 

  1. (AR) Animal RetailStores that specialize in selling products for companion and/or livestock animals but do not manufacture their own products. The AHN name should reflect the name of the store. Note: An individual cannot be classified as Animal Retail; this market segment is for businesses only. The owner of an Animal Retail business would fall under the (PD) Producer market segment. 

  1. (DS) Reporting Partner, Distributor, or WholesalerFacilitates distribution.  

  1. (DV) Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VDM) A licensed professional who provides veterinary services for companion and/or livestock animals. 

  1. (FM) Feed Manufacturer: Sells or blends feed additives, types A, B, or C.  

  1. (GV) Government: Entities funded or controlled by the government, such as Zoos,  Humane Societies, Animal Control, SPCA, and other federally or state funded animal agencies. 

  1. (ML) Military Facilities  

  1. (LB) LaboratoryEstablishments providing controlled conditions for scientific or technological research, such as biomedical or other specialized research labs. Note: This does not include university-affiliated labs—use (UN) for university-related labs. (LB) applies to independent or private research labs. 

  1. (MF) Manufacturer: Companies that produce animal or pet feed, animal drugs or therapies, or veterinary devices. 

  1. (MV) Mobile VeterinarianVeterinarians who provide services off-site, away from a clinic or hospital. This refers to a veterinarian who travels to treat animals, such as treating livestock on-site. 

  1. (NM) Non-Medical – Use this market segment for PhDs, MDs, or other doctors who are not involved in animal health industries. Note: A PhD professor would fall under the (UN) University market segment, not (NM) Non-Medical, as they are affiliated with a university. 

  1. (AI) Allied Industry: trucking companies, contracting firms, auctioneers and equipment suppliers. Private funded rescues, kennels, breeders, charitable foundations and adoption agencies are also categorized as “AI” Allied Industry.  

  1. (PD) ProducerA business or individual who raises or cares for companion or farm animals, and their customers. This can include individuals, farms, feedlots, ranches, dairies, and similar establishments. 

  1. (PH) PharmacyA business or sole proprietorship where pharmaceuticals are compounded or dispensed, including pharmacies within another business such as a supermarket, and durable medical goods retailers. This includes both chain and independent pharmacies. 

  1. (UN) Educational: An organization that provides education to individuals, including pre-schools, primary schools, secondary schools, universities, colleges, 4-H, and Future Farmers of America. This also includes labs associated with colleges and universities, as well as professors.
